 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region 5, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Victory Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Berry Fayette by a score of 46-14.

       Since 2010, Victory Christian has gone a combined 13-46. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Victory Christian has not won much with a record of 50-110. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 1A and 339th in the AHSAA.

       The Lions are led by head coach Mark Sanders who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Victory Christian. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sanders.

       Coach Sanders's overall record as a head football coach in two seasons stands at 12-9 (57.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

      

      The Victory Christian Lions will play in Class 1A region 4 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 1A but move from region 5 over to region 4.

      

       The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Sumiton Christian on Friday, August 19 at Richard Adams Stadium. Last year the Sumiton Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region 6. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Meek by a score of 62-32.

       Victory Christian and Sumiton Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 3-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 26-6.
